Summation 1

Dào is the complete and perpetual motion of the entire universe. That movement is complex, self-organizing, cyclical, eternal, and impartial. Since Dào is the entire universe, no entity is separate from it.

The world—our name for heaven and earth— has no purpose, thought, or intention. The world is not a being. Dào doesn’t go anywhere because it is everything and there is no outside of Dào.

Dào births and sustains every creature. This is why it’s regarded as virtuous, because it gives and supports life unconditionally.

Heaven, earth, and Dào are self-perpetuating and self-organizing. They have no questions. They are the sole reality, and from life to death, with every breath and stride, we are ever a part of this world.

One who follows Dào takes it as the ultimate source of truth and patterns themselves after it. All concerns are seen in terms of virtue.

In following Dào’s impartial generosity, followers of Dào are unselfish and compassionate. In following Dào’s example of ampleness, they are merciful and giving to others.
Followers of Dào are simple, plain, and natural because they neither want to obscure nor interfere with Dào. They gladly accord with Dào in every aspect of life.

You are one of the innumerable units of life. You die because your absolutely important contribution reaches its limits and new units must come in.

Life itself never dies: the birth rate far outstrips the death rate. Unless humans do something stupid, life will continue for billions of years. Each of us is part of that stream. No single thing in the universe stays static; we are also part of the process of change.

Every last atom of a person will be recycled upon their death. You came from the world, you go back to the world—because you never left this world. We are each a phenomenon, and if we must know why, we can say we are one of the actions of the world.

  1. “One who follows Dào takes it as the ultimate source of truth and patterns themselves after it….”

Do we make an effort to pattern ourselves after Dao or is it more like allowing ourselves to be what we already are?

    1. If it’s not too odd to say, we pattern ourselves after Dao BECAUSE we know who we already are. That means who you truly and naturally are, and not an intellectual or socialized image of who you think you are. If you are honest and true, then you will perceive and WANT to follow Dao.
